Libya and the United Kingdom are exploring ways to expand cooperation in higher education and scientific research

Tripoli, May 19, 2026 (LANA) – The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Government of National Unity, Dr. Mohamed Al-Dbeib, discussed prospects for academic cooperation between Libyan and British universities with the British Council's higher education team on the sidelines of the World Education Forum 2026 held in London.
During the meeting, Al-Dbeib emphasized the Ministry's commitment to strengthening coordination and cooperation between Libyan higher education institutions and British universities. He stated that this cooperation would contribute to developing academic programs, exchanging expertise, and opening new avenues for scientific and research collaboration between the two sides.
For their part, the British side expressed their interest in enhancing academic cooperation with Libya, confirming the genuine desire of several British universities to establish academic partnerships with Libyan universities.
The British Council also announced plans for an academic visit to Libya in the near future, with the participation of representatives from several British universities. The visit aims to assess the current state of Libyan higher education institutions and explore mechanisms for establishing joint academic cooperation between the two sides.
