Tripoli, May 17, 2026 (LANA) – Minister of Economy and Trade, Suhail Abu Shiha, met today with the German Ambassador to Libya, Ralph Tarraf, to discuss mechanisms for activating investment and economic cooperation agreements between the two countries.
The meeting addressed trade indicators between Libya and Germany, growth rates, and opportunities for developing the economic partnership. They also discussed monitoring the activities of German companies operating in the Libyan market and ways to address the challenges they face, with the aim of expanding their presence and supporting the transfer of expertise and technology.
The two sides also reviewed mechanisms for activating investment and economic cooperation agreements and establishing an implementation framework to facilitate communication between economic institutions in both countries. This framework aims to support the business environment and encourage the establishment of long-term strategic partnerships.
Abu Shiha emphasized the importance of the upcoming Libyan-German Forum, considering it a crucial economic platform for strengthening communication between the Libyan and German private sectors and opening new avenues for cooperation in the energy, industry, services, and technology sectors.
It is worth noting that the fifth Libyan-German Forum, scheduled to be held in Tripoli on May 19-20, is being organized by the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture. The forum will include the participation of the Director General of the Department for Foreign Economic Policy at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, along with a trade delegation from major German companies. The forum will feature bilateral meetings between companies and investors from both countries to discuss cooperation opportunities and establish long-term partnerships in sectors of mutual interest.
