Tripoli, May 17, 2026 (LANA) – Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the United States on Arab and African Affairs, affirmed that Libya is witnessing significant progress towards unifying the state's military, economic, and political institutions. He noted that this progress was embodied in the signing of a national budget for the first time in 13 years, in addition to co-hosting one of the events of the “Flintlock 26” special operations exercises of the US Africa Command in the city of Sirte.

In a post published today, Sunday, on his “X” account, Boulos explained that during interviews he conducted with Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya, and Sky News Arabia, he discussed the ongoing developments in Libya and the significant steps taken to strengthen the unity of state institutions between the east and west of the country.

The US official reiterated the United States' support for the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, and for the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) within the framework of the UN roadmap aimed at holding national elections and achieving national unity.

Polis noted that Washington continues to support the UN's work and the political process in Libya in a way that contributes to strengthening stability and advancing the political process.
