Al-Baour meets the New Chinese Ambassador

Tripoli, May 14, 2026 (LANA) – The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, met today, Thursday, with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Libya, Ma Xueliang, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral partnership and reopen the consular section.
The Ministry stated on its official page that the meeting addressed prospects for bilateral partnership between Libya and the People's Republic of China in various fields. Emphasis was placed on the importance of advancing bilateral relations towards further development and expansion in a way that serves the common interests of both countries.
The meeting also discussed the reopening of the consular section of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Libya, which would contribute to facilitating Libyan citizens' access to visas and consular services, and enhance communication between the two friendly nations.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continued political consultations between the two countries in support of shared interests. They also discussed following up on procedures, through relevant diplomatic channels, regarding the draft memorandum of understanding to exempt holders of diplomatic passports from both countries from visa requirements.
According to the Ministry, the meeting reviewed ways to enhance coordination, consultation, and mutual support in international forums, reflecting the strength of bilateral relations between Libya and the People's Republic of China and demonstrating both countries' commitment to supporting issues of common interest.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries in various fields, contributing to development efforts and achieving shared interests.
