Tripoli, 13 May 2026 (Lana)—EU Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, emphasized that the EU remains a reliable and steadfast partner for Libya, united by a shared vision for sovereignty, unity, prosperity, and universal rights and freedoms for all.
This came in a celebration of “Europe Day 2026” held in Tripoli, in the presence of Libyan and international officials, diplomats, and representatives of civil society.
“My colleague, the Head of the European Union Border Assistance Mission in Libya, Frederic Petersen, and I were delighted to host a splendid reception in Tripoli to celebrate Europe and the partnership between the European Union and Libya,” Orlando said in a tweet.
The celebration was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, Salem Al-Zadma, along with a number of ministers and heads of institutions, the Special Representative Hanna Tetteh, in addition to mayors, diplomats, United Nations officials, and civil society representatives.
“The speech delivered on behalf of the Government of National Unity by His Excellency the Minister of State, Walid Al-Lafi, highlighted the depth and warmth of the relationship between the European Union and Libya, and the strong spirit of partnership that binds us,” he added.
He stressed that the EU remains committed to supporting Libya at this stage, based on a shared vision of stability, unity, and enhanced development opportunities.
