El-Sonni emphasizes China’s support for national solutions in Libya.

Tripoli, 12 May 2026 (Lana)—Permanent Representative of Libya to the UN, Taher El-Sonni, stressed China’s consistent support for a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned solution and its commitment to adopting national solutions away from foreign interference, stressing the importance of any proposed initiatives being purely national.

“A fruitful meeting with His Excellency Ambassador "Fu Kong" China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and President of the Security Council, for consultation and exchange of views on the current situation in the country,” El-Sonni stated in a tweet.

He said that the meeting discussed the sanctions file, particularly what concerns the Libyan Investment Authority, in addition to the current regional and international challenges.

“We welcomed China’s consistent support for a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned solution, free from external interference, which enhances the prospects for reaching stable solutions based on national will and preserving the country’s sovereignty,” he added.
