Discussing ways to empower women in Libya and enhance cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme

Tripoli, May 11, 2026 (LANA) – The Minister of State for Women's Affairs in the Government of National Unity, Randa Gharib, held a meeting with the representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Sophie Kimkhadze, to discuss areas of joint cooperation in supporting women's empowerment programs.

The meeting addressed the follow-up on the implementation of the National Strategic Plan for Women's Empowerment, emphasizing the importance of developing economic and social empowerment programs and enhancing women's presence in decision-making positions and participation in development efforts.

The UNDP representative expressed her appreciation for the content of the National Plan, noting the importance of strengthening international partnerships to support the sustainability of efforts related to women's issues.

For her part, the Minister stressed the need to expand the scope of empowerment programs to include various sectors, with a focus on the most vulnerable groups, such as widows, divorcees, women with disabilities, those with limited income, and women without family support, in addition to supporting remote and hard-to-reach areas, to ensure equal opportunities and services throughout Libya.
