Libya and Iraq discuss strengthening protocol cooperation and activating the joint committee between the two countries.

Tripoli, May 6, 2026 (LANA) – The Director of the General Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Hussein, received the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq to Libya, Dr. Ahmed Naama Al-Sahaf, at the Ministry's headquarters.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance joint coordination in protocol matters, contributing to the development of diplomatic work mechanisms between the two countries.

The Chargé d'Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy emphasized the importance of supporting the embassy's work by strengthening coordination with the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. This coordination would facilitate diplomatic tasks, raise the level of institutional performance, and play a positive role in strengthening bilateral relations and facilitating the ongoing preparations for activating the work of the Libyan-Iraqi Joint Committee. This committee is considered an important institutional framework for enhancing bilateral cooperation and expanding areas of partnership, particularly in the economic, investment, and service sectors.

For his part, the Director of the General Protocol Department expressed the Libyan side's readiness to support the convening of the committee meetings as soon as possible, contributing to the development of bilateral relations and elevating them to levels that meet the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continued communication and joint coordination to serve the interests of Libya and Iraq, and to strengthen diplomatic and protocol cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Libya.
