Tripoli, May 6, 2026 (LANA) – The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, has directed the relevant authorities to launch an urgent investigation into the seizure of a cocaine shipment aboard a vessel bound for a Libyan port. The shipment was intercepted in the Atlantic Ocean by Spanish authorities.
According to an official letter issued by the Cabinet Office and published today, Wednesday, by the government's official platform, several relevant bodies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Customs Authority, and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), have been tasked with taking the necessary measures and communicating with the competent authorities in the Kingdom of Spain to gather information and data related to the incident.
The instructions also stressed the need to coordinate with the Libyan Embassy in Madrid to monitor the progress of the investigation and take all necessary legal measures regarding the incident to ensure that its circumstances are revealed and responsibilities are determined.
The government affirmed the extreme importance of this case and emphasized that it will be treated with utmost seriousness as part of efforts to combat organized crime and prevent the use of Libyan territory as a destination or transit point for drug trafficking operations.
