Sorman Municipality Condemns Clashes in the City That Left One Dead

Sorman, May 2, 2026 (LANA) – The Sorman Municipality expressed its deep concern and condemnation on Saturday regarding the unfortunate events that have recently occurred in the city, namely serious security breaches that threaten the safety of citizens, despite attempts to intervene and contain the situation.
In a statement, the municipality expressed its profound regret over the death of a young man from the city as a result of these events, calling on all citizens to exercise caution and adhere to the guidelines issued by the relevant authorities to ensure their safety.
The municipality urged all conflicting parties to demonstrate national responsibility, prioritize wisdom and reason, and refrain from any actions that could escalate tensions or harm social peace.
The municipality condemned these illegal acts, emphasizing that it will not tolerate anyone who dares to tamper with the security of Sorman and will take all necessary legal measures against those involved, in coordination with the relevant authorities.
The Sorman Municipality affirmed its full commitment to pursuing these cases to their conclusion, to ensure justice for the victims, protect the rights of the innocent, and uphold the rule of law.
For its part, the Sorman branch of the Libyan Red Crescent urged all families trapped in the areas of clashes to remain in their homes and not leave except in cases of extreme necessity, calling on the relevant authorities to open safe corridors for their urgent evacuation.
The city witnessed violent clashes on Friday night and Saturday morning involving light and medium weapons between two armed groups, resulting in one casualty and property damage.
