Al-Qubbah, April 30, 2026 (LANA) – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, met today in Al-Qubbah with an Italian parliamentary delegation headed by Lorenzo Guerini, Chairman of the Italian Parliamentary Committee for the Security of the Republic, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and address issues of common interest.
The meeting, which was also attended by the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, addressed the latest political and economic developments in Libya, current events on the local scene, and prospects for joint economic cooperation, particularly in vital sectors that contribute to driving development, in addition to the issue of illegal immigration.
The two sides discussed the issue of illegal immigration, considered one of the most prominent challenges facing Libya and the region. Emphasis was placed on the need to strengthen the capabilities of Libyan institutions responsible for border management and to provide them with technical and logistical support, which would contribute to reducing the flow of illegal immigration.
The meeting stressed the importance of adopting comprehensive approaches to address this phenomenon, combining security, development, and humanitarian aspects, in order to contribute to achieving regional stability and enhance opportunities for cooperation between Libya and Italy in various areas of common interest.
