Dbeibah meets with representatives of the water resources sector in Libya, Tunisia and Algeria

Tripoli, April 29, 2026 (LANA) – Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah of the Government of National Unity met with representatives of the water resources sector from Libya, Tunisia, and Algeria on Wednesday in Tripoli, as part of the first tripartite ministerial meeting to discuss strengthening cooperation in water resources management.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of enhancing regional cooperation among the three countries in the field of water resources and developing joint mechanisms to ensure sustainability and support stability in the region.

The meeting in Tripoli included Libyan Minister of Water Resources Hosni Oweidan, Tunisian Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries Ezzedine Balcheikh, and a representative from Algeria through its ambassador to Libya. Discussions focused on shared groundwater resources in the northern Sahara and mechanisms for coordinating their management.

The meeting concluded with the signing of an agreement to establish a consultation mechanism and the adoption of the "Tripoli Declaration." The internal regulations of the body were also adopted, financial contributions were approved, and the presidency of the body for the current term was assigned to the Algerian side.
