Tripoli, April 28, 2026 (LANA) – Sorour Ali, coordinator of the Women in Municipal Councils Forum, held a meeting with female members of the municipal councils in Tripoli Center, Souq al-Jum’a, Ain Zara, Sabratha, Qasr Bin Ghashir, Sidi al-Sayeh, and Hay al-Andalus.
The meeting addressed the challenges and obstacles facing women in municipal councils while performing their duties, and ways to overcome them to ensure their active and influential participation in local decision-making.
In a move aimed at empowering women and strengthening their role in society, the Forum announced during the meeting the launch of the “Women’s Community Participation Initiative within Municipalities.” This initiative aims to enhance communication between municipal councils and female citizens within each municipality’s administrative boundaries, and to activate women’s role in identifying development priorities and contributing proposals related to local affairs.
The initiative also seeks to establish direct communication platforms to ensure that the voices and needs of Libyan women reach decision-making centers, thereby strengthening their participation in public life and supporting local development.
