Tobruk, April 28, 2026 (LANA) – The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fawzi al-Nuwairi, emphasized the importance of protecting national sovereignty in managing Libya's economic and financial affairs. He stressed the need to avoid linking any international dialogues or understandings regarding frozen Libyan assets or sovereign financial matters to any arrangements that infringe upon the Libyan people's right to manage their resources.
This came in a statement issued Tuesday by the official spokesperson for the House of Representatives. Al-Nuwairi addressed the discussions surrounding the meeting between the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya and the Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Libya and Deputy Chief of Mission, which addressed several financial and economic issues.
Al-Nuwairi emphasized that managing the economic and financial file is a purely national responsibility subject to constitutional and legal frameworks, primarily the legislative authority, which is the competent body for oversight and legislation. He affirmed that this file should not be opened to any external parties in a way that compromises national sovereignty.
He called for any international dialogues or understandings to support financial and economic stability in Libya, and to be based on mutual respect for national sovereignty, thereby contributing to the unification of institutions and the strengthening of resource management in a way that serves the public interest.
Al-Nuwairi also affirmed the House of Representatives' support for all efforts aimed at achieving economic stability, provided that they are conducted within the framework of full national sovereignty and in a manner that guarantees the protection of the rights of the Libyan state and supports the path of comprehensive development.
