Al-Lafi discusses with the French ambassador the latest political developments and ways to end the deadlock in Libya

Tripoli, April 28, 2026 (LANA) – Deputy Head of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, received the French Ambassador to Libya, Thierry Vallat, on Tuesday. The meeting addressed the latest political developments in the country and ways to resolve the current political deadlock, ensuring the preservation of national unity and the stability of its institutions, and creating the appropriate conditions for reaching a comprehensive national settlement.
During the meeting, Al-Lafi emphasized that any path to resolving the crisis must stem from a purely national will and be fully Libyan-owned, with all options and initiatives being free from any approaches that infringe upon national sovereignty. He stressed the importance of supporting inclusive Libyan initiatives capable of achieving consensus and ending the division.
For his part, French Ambassador Thierry Vallat affirmed his country's full support for all national efforts aimed at resolving the political deadlock. He reiterated France's support for legitimate institutions and all Libyan initiatives that would advance the political process towards stability and fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, unity, and development.
