Tetteh Concludes Visit to Misrata

Misrata, April 28, 2026 (LANA) – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, concluded a short visit to the city of Misrata on Tuesday to reaffirm support for the political process leading to elections.

The mission stated on its official page that Tetteh held a series of meetings with members of the municipal council, members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, representatives of civil society, women and youth, prominent figures, as well as political and security actors.

Tetteh emphasized that the mission remains focused on advancing the UN-facilitated political roadmap, leading to national elections, and assisting the Libyan people in achieving their aspirations for democratic legitimacy, building strong state institutions, preserving Libya's unity and resources, and guiding the country towards peace, stability, and sustainable development.

The mission reiterated its commitment to continuing its work to ensure that the political process is inclusive, taking into account the realities on the ground, and acknowledged the concerns and reservations of the citizens.

The Special Representative addressed questions related to the smaller meeting, explaining that its purpose was to overcome obstacles hindering the implementation of the first two steps of the political roadmap facilitated by the mission: completing the formation of the High National Elections Commission and amending the electoral framework based on the recommendations of the Advisory Committee, with the necessity of adopting these amendments in a legally binding manner.

During the meetings, Ms. Tetteh provided an overview of the structured dialogue tracks, explaining how its recommendations can contribute to developing a national vision for the country and creating the conditions for peaceful national elections, as well as providing a governance framework for the post-election phase.
