Ministry of Local Government holds a meeting with the UN.

Tripoli, 28 April 2026 (Lana)—GNU Minister of Local Government, Abdulshafi Al-Juwaifi, met with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Libya, Sophie Kemkhadze, to discuss the progress of joint cooperation projects and the challenges they face, in addition to discussing prospects for strengthening future partnerships to support the development of the local governance system and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.

This meeting was held at the ministry's headquarters in Tripoli, with the participation of several department and office directors from the ministry, as well as a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the meeting included a comprehensive review of the progress of joint projects and ways to accelerate their efficient implementation.

The meeting addressed the challenges hindering the provision of technical and institutional support, emphasizing the importance of overcoming these obstacles to ensure the completion of activities according to approved plans.

Al-Juwaifi stressed the importance of the UNDP's role in supporting the decentralization process and strengthening the capacities of local governance, emphasizing the need to expand areas of cooperation and benefit from international expertise in policy development and enhancing the efficiency of national personnel.

For her part, Kemkhadze reiterated the UNDP’s commitment to continue providing technical and technological support, commending the level of cooperation with the Ministry, and stressing the program’s commitment to contribute to achieving sustainable development and enhancing stability in Libya.
