Abu Shiha discusses with the Italian ambassador enhancing cooperation in the trade and investment sectors

Tripoli, April 26, 2026 (LANA) – Minister of Economy and Trade in the Government of National Unity, Suhail Abu Shiha, met today, Sunday, with the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Albrini, to discuss strengthening cooperation between chambers of commerce and business owners in both countries. This cooperation aims to facilitate the movement of traders, increase the volume of trade exchange, and enhance investment partnerships.
The meeting reviewed reports on bilateral trade exchange between the two countries and existing investment partnerships in several sectors. The meeting was also attended by the heads of the Libyan-Italian Joint Chamber of Commerce from both sides and the economic advisor at the Italian Embassy.
Abu Shiha affirmed that the Ministry of Economy and Trade provides all possible facilities to Italian companies and investors to enter the Libyan market and participate in implementing and activating investment projects targeted by the government's plan.
For his part, the Italian Ambassador commended the efforts of the Government of National Unity in developing trade and investment, noting that these sectors are witnessing remarkable growth. He added that his country looks forward to further cooperation and strengthening trade and investment relations by leveraging the geographical location of both countries to revitalize transit trade to European and African markets.
The two sides discussed the workshop organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, scheduled for Monday in Tripoli, entitled "Libyan-Italian Relations: Towards a Comprehensive and Sustainable Cooperation Model." The workshop will include participation from relevant ministries and agencies from both sides and will address bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy and development, oil and renewable energy, agriculture, marine resources and water resources, and investment promotion and export development.
The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation between the joint chamber of commerce and the relevant departments and agencies affiliated with the ministry to support the business environment, facilitate banking procedures both domestically and internationally, and enhance participation in bilateral economic exhibitions and conferences, within the framework of networking between companies and investors in both countries.
