The Asian-African Parliament nominates Aguila Saleh for its presidency

Benghazi, April 26, 2026 (LANA) – The Asian-African Parliamentary Assembly announced its nomination of Libyan House of Representatives Speaker, Counselor Aguila Saleh, to head the international parliament.

The Assembly affirmed that this nomination stems from Counselor Saleh's active presence and tangible contributions to strengthening parliamentary cooperation at both the regional and international levels, reflecting Libya's standing and growing role in this regard.

In an official letter, the Assembly expressed its aspiration to enhance its partnership with the Libyan House of Representatives, proposing the convening of an Asian-African parliamentary conference in Libya, under the auspices of the Libyan House of Representatives and with high-level participation from speakers and members of parliaments from both continents.

It noted that this proposal is based on extensive consultations among Assembly members, which resulted in a consensus to support the nomination of the Libyan Speaker of the House of Representatives to assume the presidency of the Asian-African Parliamentary Assembly, in recognition of his experience and vision, which contribute to developing parliamentary work and strengthening diplomatic presence.

The Council affirmed that holding the conference represents a strategic step towards unifying visions and strengthening joint action to address current challenges, thereby contributing to supporting stability and development. It noted that Libya's hosting of this event reflects its standing and pivotal role in its regional and international environment.

The Council proposed that the conference be held at the beginning of June, emphasizing its full readiness to coordinate and finalize all organizational and technical arrangements to ensure its success and the achievement of its objectives.
