Tripoli, April 26, 2026 (LANA) – The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Menfi, met today, Sunday, with the United Kingdom's Ambassador to Libya, Martin Reynolds, to discuss the latest political, economic, and security developments in Libya, as well as international efforts to advance the political process towards a comprehensive consensus leading to elections.

Al-Menfi emphasized the importance of any political initiative, including that of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), being based on sound legal and constitutional foundations. This would ensure the integrity of the electoral process and prevent any subsequent legal challenges or disputes arising from loopholes, overlaps in the drafting process, or politicization.

The meeting also addressed the issue of unifying the military institution and the necessity of continuing efforts to build a unified military institution under civilian authority, operating within constitutional and legal frameworks. The importance of implementing a unified budget to enhance financial stability and ensure the equitable distribution of resources was also discussed.

The British ambassador reiterated his country's support for the Presidential Council's efforts to achieve stability in Libya, emphasizing the United Kingdom's commitment to supporting the political process and enhancing opportunities for reaching a comprehensive and sustainable settlement.
