A seminar in Benghazi discusses domestic violence

Tripoli – April 24, 2026 (LANA) – The Women's Support and Empowerment Office in Benghazi Municipality discussed the phenomenon of domestic violence in Libyan society during a dialogue seminar. Officials and experts participated, emphasizing the need to adopt practical solutions to reduce this phenomenon.
The seminar, titled "Domestic Violence in Libyan Society," was held at the Wahbi Al-Bouri Cultural Center. It was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Arts (Programs and Activities Department) in cooperation with Benghazi Municipal Council member, Counselor Khairiya Al-Farjani, who is responsible for social affairs.
The event was attended by the Minister of Culture in the Government of National Unity, Salha Al-Darouqi, along with a number of academics, researchers, and other interested parties, as well as artists, writers, and community figures.
The symposium addressed several themes through scholarly papers focusing on forms of domestic violence, including violence against women, children, the elderly, men, and vulnerable groups.
The discussions aimed to analyze the social, psychological, and legal dimensions of the phenomenon and propose practical solutions to mitigate it, emphasizing the importance of raising community awareness and strengthening the role of relevant institutions.
At the conclusion of the symposium, participants formulated a set of recommendations to be submitted to Parliament and the government to support the development of effective policies that contribute to reducing domestic violence and promoting social cohesion.
