Tripoli, April 20, 2026 (LANA) – The Ministry of Education of the Government of National Unity issued Circular No. (1) of 2026 today, Monday, concerning regulations and conduct in educational institutions and the preservation of religious and national values.

The Ministry clarified that the instructions necessitate the unification of educational standards and the preservation of the Libyan student's identity, particularly in private educational institutions, especially international ones.

The Ministry called for the immediate implementation of legal measures and procedures, namely the complete and absolute segregation of male and female students in secondary school classrooms, in addition to allocating separate rest areas, courtyards, and playgrounds to ensure no mixing, similar to the practice in public schools.

The Ministry also prohibited the holding of any mixed-gender activities or events and stipulated obtaining prior written permission from the Private Education Department after reviewing the activity's content and its compliance with this circular.

The circular instructed all public and private educational institutions, both local and international, to regulate and manage their official social media platforms in a manner that serves their educational mission. It also tasked the Director of Private Education and education supervisors with monitoring and implementing this circular through regular and surprise field visits.

The Ministry warned that any negligence or violation of the requirements of this circular will result in the educational institution having its license revoked and being immediately closed, with those responsible being held legally accountable.
