A delegation from the House of Representatives is participating in the work of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul.

Istanbul, April 20, 2026 (LANA) – A delegation from the Libyan House of Representatives, headed by First Deputy Speaker Fawzi Al-Nuwairi and including Dr. Sultana Al-Mismari and Dr. Rabia Abu Ras, participated in the closing session of the 152nd Assembly and the 217th Governing Council, held in Istanbul, Turkey.

Al-Nuwairi, in his capacity as Chairman of the Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, presented the committee's final report, highlighting the key discussions, particularly regarding the role of the UN Resident Coordinator and her team in strengthening cooperation with the Turkish government and parliament.

Several sessions were dedicated to discussing a proposed amendment to the UN Charter, submitted by a civil society coalition, entitled "Article 109: Renewal of the UN Charter." The sessions also addressed ways to empower the UN to address current challenges and elected new members to the committee's bureau.

The work of the Governing Council was also discussed, including reports on human rights and the activities of other committees and bodies. The Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union was also elected, with the Libyan parliamentary delegation participating in the voting process.
