Libyan Parliamentary Delegation Participates in the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul

Benghazi – April 18, 2026 (LANA) – The Libyan Parliamentary Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, headed by the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, and including MPs Sultana Al-Mismari, Rabia Abu Ras, and Fatima Al-Suwai’i, participated in the 152nd Assembly and the 217th session of the Governing Council, held in Istanbul, Turkey.

According to a statement by the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Abdullah Belhaq, the Assembly's agenda included the election of its president for the current session, consideration of requests to include an emergency item on the agenda, and discussions on accountability regarding the implementation of Union resolutions. The Assembly also addressed the role of parliaments in countering protectionist policies, reducing tariffs, and combating corporate tax evasion.

The sessions also reviewed the reports of the Standing Committees, approving the items related to the Committee on International Peace and Security and the Committee on Sustainable Development.

During the Governing Council's proceedings, the minutes of the previous session were adopted, the Council's activities were reviewed, the Executive Committee's report was discussed, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union's strategy for the period 2027–2031 was adopted.

The program for upcoming international parliamentary meetings was also approved, in addition to reviewing the activities of the Standing Committees and subsidiary bodies and receiving reports on the Union's specialized meetings. The session concluded with a vote on the emergency item, in which the Libyan parliamentary delegation participated.
