Marrakech, April 15, 2026 (LANA) – Minister of Transport and Chairman of the General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ACAO), Mohammed Al-Shahoubi, emphasized the importance of strengthening technical support and capacity building for countries facing challenges in complying with international aviation standards, stressing the need to bridge the gap between member states.

This came during his participation in the Global Symposium on Supporting Implementation, organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Marrakech, Morocco.

The symposium, with the participation of several ministers and officials, discussed ways to enhance international cooperation and support the organization's role in achieving sustainable development in the aviation sector, in addition to mechanisms for assisting countries in improving their compliance with international standards, within the framework of the "No Country Left Behind" initiative.

Al-Shahoubi reviewed the efforts of the Government of National Unity in developing the aviation sector, including modernizing airport infrastructure, developing regulations and legislation, and improving the efficiency of operational systems, thereby enhancing performance levels and achieving compliance with international standards.

On the sidelines of the symposium, Al-Shahoubi held a series of meetings with several officials, including the Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Juan Carlos Salazar, where they discussed the results of cooperation with the Technical Cooperation Office. He also met with the Director of the ICAO Regional Office in Cairo, Mohamed Rahma, where they discussed expediting the completion of assessment reports and audits related to Libyan civil aviation.

These meetings focused on supporting Libya's efforts to develop its oversight system, which will contribute to enhancing safety and security levels and increasing international confidence in the civil aviation sector.
