Washington, April 14, 2026 (LANA) – The UN Security Council is voting today, Tuesday, on a draft resolution to reinstate the measures contained in Resolution 2146, adopted on March 19, 2014, concerning the illicit export of oil from Libya.

The draft resolution, authored by the United Kingdom, renews the mandate of the Panel of Experts established pursuant to Resolution 2769 on Libya.

The Security Council's Security Council Report website stated that the Panel of Experts' report on corruption, submitted pursuant to Resolution 2769, highlighted unprecedented levels of corruption in Libya's energy sector, which it considered a contributing factor to the country's deteriorating economic situation.

The Panel's findings indicated the misuse of the National Oil Corporation's budget to funnel funds to networks linked to armed groups, implicating political and military figures from both the east and west of the country.

The proposed resolution renews the mandate of the European Security Service until August 15, 2027, and extends the authority to take measures relating to the illicit export of oil from Libya until August 1, 2027. It also improves the implementation of the asset-freezing measures contained in Resolution 2769 while maintaining the existing sanctions framework on Libya.
