Tripoli, April 12, 2026 (LANA) – Minister of Housing and Construction, Essam Al-Tamouni, held a meeting today, Sunday, with a high-level delegation from the Chinese construction company, China State Construction Engineering Corp Ltd., to discuss prospects for cooperation in implementing housing projects in Libya.
The Chinese company's delegation included Assistant General Manager of the Engineering Office, Zhang Weisai; Deputy General Manager of the company's Libya branch, Huang Changbiao; Chief Engineer of the North Africa branch, Li Yunfeng; and Chief Translator of the company's Egypt branch, Hu Fushun.
The meeting reviewed the previously signed contract between the Chinese company and the Housing and Infrastructure Projects Implementation Authority, concerning the construction of 20,000 housing units in Benghazi. It also explored avenues for cooperation between the Savings Bank and the Chinese company in the housing sector.
The meeting also addressed the upcoming forum for Arab housing ministers, scheduled for June in Beijing, China, which represents a significant opportunity to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise in the housing sector.
The Minister of Housing emphasized the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries and the necessity of strengthening them to serve mutual interests and support development efforts. He also highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in investment and construction.
The Chinese delegation expressed the Chinese company's readiness to participate in new projects, in line with the country's urban development plans.
The meeting was attended on the Libyan side by the Director General of the Savings Bank, Hussein Hammouda, and the Chairman of the Bank's Board of Directors, Abubakr Misbah.
