Al-Baour and the Sudanese Foreign Minister discuss efforts to activate the African Investment Bank and its role in supporting development projects

Tripoli, April 12, 2026 (LANA) – Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour, met today with Sudanese Foreign Minister, Mohi El-Din Salem, to discuss developments in the region, particularly in light of the political and security challenges facing some countries in the region.

The meeting, held in Tripoli, focused specifically on the African Investment Bank (AIB). The Libyan side reviewed the latest efforts to activate this continental financial institution, which Libya is hosting, emphasizing Libya's commitment to bringing this strategic project to fruition, given its pivotal role in supporting African economic integration and financing development projects.

The Sudanese side expressed interest in this initiative, stressing the importance of such initiatives in strengthening joint African action and supporting economic stability on the continent.

They also exchanged views on the importance of supporting stability initiatives and enhancing joint coordination to serve the interests of both countries and contribute to regional security.

During the meeting, Al-Baour emphasized the deep historical ties between Libya and Sudan, stressing the importance of activating bilateral cooperation channels, especially in the economic and development fields, to fulfill the aspirations of the two brotherly nations. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides affirmed their commitment to continued coordination and consultation, and to working towards developing bilateral relations in a way that serves their common interests and contributes to strengthening stability and cooperation at the regional and continental levels.

The meeting was attended on the Libyan side by the Director of the Arab Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Najib Al-Rayani; the Libyan Ambassador to the Republic of Sudan, Fawzi Abu-Mriz; and the representative of the Founding Committee of the African Investment Bank, Rami Saeed Kaal.
