Strengthening Cooperation between the Libyan Customs Authority and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime

Tripoli, April 12, 2026 (LANA) – Director General of the Libyan Customs Authority, Major General Musa Ali, met with a delegation from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), headed by Mohamed Baraka, Regional Coordinator for North Africa in the Passenger and Cargo Control Program (PCCP). They discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation and support efforts to develop the customs control system at Libyan ports of entry.

The meeting, held at the Authority's headquarters, addressed several key areas aimed at improving the efficiency of monitoring and tracking imports and containers arriving from abroad, and strengthening oversight mechanisms within customs ports. This, in turn, contributes to combating smuggling and addressing illicit activities.

During the meeting, Mohamed Baraka praised the significant role played by the Libyan Customs Authority in monitoring the movement of containers and goods. He commended the efforts of customs officers at various Libyan ports and the remarkable progress achieved in the performance of container control rooms.

For his part, the Director General of the Customs Authority, Major General Musa Ali, highly valued the support provided by the United Nations Office to the Libyan Customs Authority, both in training and logistics. He emphasized that this cooperation directly contributes to enhancing the capabilities of the Authority's personnel.
