Kofra, April 11, 2026 (LANA) – In a cultural event reflecting the depth of Libyan identity and its deep roots in the heart of the desert, the first "Oasis Heritage Festival" was launched in the city of Kofra. The festival drew a significant audience, including prominent figures from both the elite and the general public, as well as a group of those interested in cultural affairs and residents of the city eager to revive the splendor of their folk heritage.

This festival, held at the Al-Jawf Al-Gharbi Secondary School, is a strategic step aimed at bridging the gap between the past and the present, introducing younger generations to the treasures of their ancestors, and preserving national identity from fading away amidst contemporary changes.

In a statement regarding the festival's objectives and principles, Rashid Rafeh Saeed, a member of the organizing committee and founder of the renowned "Kufra Books" library, emphasized that this event represents a cornerstone of a larger cultural project that seeks to transform heritage from a mere silent memory into a lived reality.

Rashid stated, "The Oasis Festival is not just a fleeting celebration; it is a testament to the history of this bountiful land. Through organizing this event, we were keen to combine architectural authenticity and craftsmanship with intellectual and cultural exchange. Therefore, the 'Kufra Books' library is present with a special pavilion dedicated to history and heritage, based on our belief that preserving heritage begins with documenting and deeply understanding it."

He added, "We want Kufra to remain a cultural beacon connecting the east, west, and south of the country. This festival is an open invitation for everyone to appreciate the beauty of Libyan dress, the rich heritage of handicrafts, and the majestic presence of the purebred Arabian horses that grace our squares today."

The morning session witnessed a large turnout, with participants showcasing Libyan equestrian arts, a symbol of chivalry and strength. The evening session is set to welcome families in a festive atmosphere filled with the traditional aromas of the oasis's renowned cuisine.

The festival includes several pavilions, among them: the Heritage Exhibition, featuring rare artifacts that tell the story of daily life in the oasis in bygone eras.

It is worth noting that the festival will continue to offer its diverse activities, emphasizing in its closing slogan, "Our Heritage Unites Us," a clear call to uphold national unity through shared cultural memory.
