Local Government meets with the Italian Embassy

Tripoli, April 9, 2026 (LANA) – The Ministry of Local Government of the Government of National Unity met today, Thursday, with the Italian Embassy in Libya to discuss mechanisms for implementing the “Water Resources Management at the Municipal Level” project. This meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation and improve the efficiency of water management at the local level.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the agreement's provisions and practical implementation mechanisms to ensure the project's objectives are met and to contribute to improving municipalities' performance in managing water resources according to their actual needs.
Participants discussed ways to develop the project by incorporating new proposals that support its various phases and improve its outcomes. This will enhance the efficiency of services provided to citizens and raise the level of local governance.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of exchanging technical expertise and learning from successful experiences to support local development programs and contribute to improving basic services.
The meeting, held at the Ministry's headquarters in Tripoli, was attended by the Director of the International Cooperation and Organizations Affairs Office, Abdul Salam Al-Qadi, along with the Deputy Italian Ambassador, Riccardo Villa, the First Secretary of the Italian Embassy, a representative from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), and the Project Advisor and Director. Also present were the Advisor to the International Cooperation Office, Walid Salhoub, and the representative of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Suwaid, in addition to representatives from the Legal Affairs Department and the International Cooperation and Organizations Affairs Office at the Ministry.
This meeting comes within the framework of strengthening international cooperation between Libya and Italy and activating partnerships that support sustainable development efforts, particularly in vital sectors related to the lives of citizens.
