Health Ministry and WHO Discuss Developing Health Planning

Tripoli, April 7, 2026 (LANA) – The Ministry of Health of the Government of National Unity met yesterday, Monday, with the World Health Organization in Libya to discuss ways to develop health planning and strengthen primary healthcare services. This meeting was held within the framework of a strategic partnership aimed at improving the quality and expanding the reach of health services across various regions.

The meeting took place at the Ministry headquarters and was chaired by the Director of the Health Planning and Research Office. Officials from the office and the International Cooperation Office also participated. An agreement was reached to enhance technical support for preparing the strategic plan for primary healthcare and to develop public health programs that meet current health needs.

The meeting also discussed mechanisms for modernizing health data collection and analysis systems to support evidence-based decision-making. Coordination was also discussed for implementing training programs and workshops aimed at improving the efficiency and performance of healthcare personnel.

The meeting also addressed the review of healthcare facilities and hospitals in accordance with accreditation standards, and discussed regulating the pricing of medications for chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, and cancer, to ensure their regular availability at affordable prices.

This initiative is part of the Ministry of Health's efforts to enhance the efficiency of the healthcare system and improve the quality of services provided to citizens through the development of data-driven health planning and the expansion of international partnerships supporting the sector.
