Egyptian-Moroccan consultations on the Libyan issue and a number of common concerns

Cairo, April 6, 2026 (LANA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty met with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, in Cairo on Monday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations, with a particular focus on developments in Libya and efforts to support stability there, within the framework of ongoing political coordination between the two countries.

Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing consultations on the Libyan issue, in order to contribute to supporting security and stability, preserving the unity of the state, and strengthening the political process as the primary option for resolving the crisis, in addition to supporting joint Arab and African action to confront regional challenges.

The meeting also addressed the latest developments in the region, including Sudan and the military escalation there. Both sides stressed the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to contain tensions and prevent their further escalation.

In the same context, the Egyptian minister reviewed the efforts exerted by Cairo in cooperation with regional and international partners to de-escalate tensions and support political settlement processes, especially in Libya, considering it a priority issue for regional national security.

The two ministers also discussed ways to develop bilateral relations between Egypt and Morocco and preparations for the first session of the Joint Coordination and Follow-up Committee, aiming to enhance cooperation in various fields and serve the common interests of both countries.

The meeting included an exchange of views on several issues of mutual interest, with emphasis placed on continued coordination and consultation in the coming period, given the rapidly evolving challenges facing the region.
