The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport discusses ways to enhance cooperation with the Russian side in the fields of infrastructure and maritime transport.

St. Petersburg – April 2, 2026 (LANA) – The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transportation for Maritime Affairs in the Government of National Unity, Wissam Al-Idrisi, met today, Thursday, with the Russian Deputy Minister of Transportation and the Mayor of St. Petersburg to discuss ways to enhance cooperation with Russia in the areas of infrastructure and maritime transport. The meeting took place on the sidelines of his participation in the International Transport and Logistics Forum held in St. Petersburg, Russia, from April 1 to 3.

According to the Ministry of Transportation of the Government of National Unity, the meetings addressed ways to develop bilateral cooperation, including the transfer and localization of Russian technology, the exchange of expertise, and mechanisms for utilizing modern technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, to develop transportation methods and facilitate the movement of people and goods.

During the meetings, Al-Idrisi emphasized Libya's continued commitment to international treaties and agreements and its full respect for legal and ethical frameworks, ensuring the protection of facilities, assets, and individuals, both nationally and internationally.

For his part, the Russian Deputy Minister of Transport expressed his appreciation for the spirit of cooperation shown by the Libyan Ministry of Transport, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the partnership between the two countries and opening new avenues for cooperation in the areas of training, infrastructure development, and the integration of smart systems in the transport sector.

The Ministry indicated that this participation in the forum, which is a global platform that brings together transport ministries and decision-makers from around the world, comes within the framework of the Ministry of Transport's efforts to enhance Libya's presence in international forums and build strategic partnerships that contribute to the development of the transport sector and support sustainable development.
