Benghazi, March 31, 2026 (LANA) – The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fawzi Al-Taher Al-Nuwairi, rejected any foreign interference that infringes upon Libyan sovereignty, stressing that sovereign decisions, particularly financial and monetary arrangements, are a purely national matter and are not subject to interpretation or dictates from any party whatsoever.
In an official statement issued today, Monday, Al-Nuwairi explained that the House of Representatives had previously warned on more than one occasion of the dangers of sliding into paths that undermine the core of national sovereignty and the independence of Libyan decision-making. He emphasized that any unregulated communication between foreign entities and officials of sovereign institutions outside of established diplomatic channels is unacceptable and raises questions about its objectives and repercussions.
The statement stressed that any interference by foreign missions or embassies in internal affairs, or any attempt to impose visions or arrangements outside the national legal framework, constitutes a violation of the principle of non-interference and undermines the foundations of governance, in addition to opening the door to economic and political chaos.
Al-Nuwairi also emphasized that relying on external solutions, including UN-led initiatives, has proven in practice to prolong the crisis. He pointed out that the true solution must be purely Libyan, based on the free national will through clear constitutional and electoral processes.
In the same context, he clarified that the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) plays only a technical and supportive role and does not possess any executive or sovereign authority. He warned that exceeding this role constitutes a blatant violation of the state's sovereignty.
Al-Nuwairi called on all state institutions and officials to shoulder their national responsibilities, commit to protecting sovereignty and preserving independent decision-making, and reject any practices that legitimize foreign interference or weaken the independence of institutions.
The statement concluded by affirming that Libya is a fully sovereign state and that its national decisions are made solely by the will of its people. It reiterated the call for national unity and adherence to national principles.
