Tripoli, March 30, 2026 (LANA) – Faisal Al-Abdali, Director General of the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research, followed up today, Monday, on the final arrangements for the launch of the joint research project with the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), entitled: “Plastic and Microplastic Pollution on the Beaches of Western Libya.”

This came during his meeting with Wael Khalifa Al-Harari, head of the Libyan team for the joint research project, and Basim Abdulkarim Balqasim, coordinator of the joint cooperation agreement with the Turkish side.

The meeting addressed the mechanisms for commencing the fieldwork and research of the project, in addition to finalizing all necessary arrangements for the upcoming visit of the Turkish research team to Libya, to ensure the success of the joint work between the two teams and the achievement of the desired objectives of this important environmental study.

According to the Authority, this project is part of its strategy to support environmental research that contributes to the assessment and protection of Libyan beaches, and underscores the importance of international partnerships in exchanging expertise, transferring knowledge, and developing national research capabilities in addressing contemporary environmental issues.
