Al-Baour affirms Libya's support for the sovereignty of Arab states during the Arab foreign ministers' meeting

Tripoli, March 29, 2026 (LANA) – The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, participated today, Sunday, via video conference, in the 165th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level.
The Ministry stated on its official page that the session's agenda included two main items: the attacks targeting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of several Arab states, and the nomination of a new Secretary-General for the League of Arab States.
In his address, Al-Baour affirmed Libya's firm and unwavering stance of full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Kuwait, the State of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Iraq, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, emphasizing its rejection of any violations of their sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty and independence of all states, and of full adherence to the established principles governing relations between states as stipulated in international charters, foremost among them non-interference in internal affairs and the settlement of disputes through peaceful means.
According to the Ministry, in his address, he reiterated Libya's support for all regional efforts aimed at resolving disputes peacefully, particularly those based on dialogue and negotiation.
The participants discussed the nomination of a new Secretary-General for the League of Arab States to assume the position starting July 1, 2026, following the expiration of the term of the current Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, on June 30.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a declaration was issued rejecting all forms of violations that infringe upon the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the principles of international law and the rules of good neighborliness, and the necessity of settling disputes through peaceful means, thereby contributing to the enhancement of security and stability in the region.
