Egyptian and Greek Foreign Ministers Discuss Latest Developments in Libya

Cairo, March 28, 2026 (LANA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty received a phone call from his Greek counterpart, Giorgos Gerapetritis, last Friday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on regional issues, particularly the situation in Libya.

Regarding the Libyan crisis, Abdel-Aty affirmed Egypt's unwavering support for Libya's unity and stability, emphasizing the importance of unifying Libyan institutions and working towards a comprehensive political solution. He also called for presidential and parliamentary elections to be held as soon as possible within a Libyan-led process that fulfills the aspirations of the Libyan people and preserves their sovereignty.

Abdel-Aty expressed Egypt's commitment to advancing the Libyan political process and supporting international mediation efforts to establish strong political institutions capable of addressing the challenges facing Libya.

For his part, the Greek Foreign Minister commended Egypt's ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and contain regional tensions, emphasizing the importance of continued coordination between the two countries to ensure stability in the region. He also praised Egypt's initiatives in promoting diplomatic dialogue and achieving stability.

At the conclusion of the call, both sides affirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation between their countries in various fields and working together to maintain stability and peace in the region.
