Misrata, March 24, 2026 (LANA) – The Misrata office of the General Authority for Endowments and Islamic Affairs condemned the bombing of the shrine of Sheikh Mohammed Al-Madani in the Al-Ghairan area within the municipality, describing it as a "criminal act" that violates the sanctity of religious sites and threatens public security. The office stressed the necessity of pursuing the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.
In an official statement published on its official page, the office explained that the incident constitutes a serious attack on religious sites, terrorizes innocent civilians, and violates public order. It emphasized that such actions are a transgression against the authority of the state and its legal jurisdiction.
The statement affirmed that enjoining good and forbidding evil must be done in accordance with Islamic law and scholarly principles, and that the use of force is restricted to authorized bodies only, in order to prevent chaos and maintain stability. It noted that any actions that harm lives or property are religiously unacceptable, even if carried out under the banner of reform.
The office clarified that safeguarding the faith is achieved through knowledge, wisdom, and official institutions, and that addressing any violations—if any exist—should be done through established legal procedures, thus ensuring the avoidance of discord.
It emphasized that the management of mosques and religious facilities is the exclusive prerogative of the state, considering what occurred an individual act outside the law and a crime warranting punishment, as it constitutes a direct threat to security and stability and an attempt to impose a reality outside the framework of the state.
The office called upon the Ministry of the Interior, represented by the Misrata Security Directorate, to launch an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident, apprehend those involved and bring them to justice, and take the necessary measures to protect religious facilities.
He also urged citizens to adhere to moderation and respect state institutions, warning against the dangers of extremism and fanaticism and the unrest they could lead to.
He concluded his statement by emphasizing that maintaining security and national unity are among the most important objectives of Islamic law, and that reform can only be achieved through order, the rule of law, and recourse to the appropriate authorities.
