Zwara Municipality: Strictly Stranded Russian Tanker Heading Northwest, Away from the Coast

Zwara, March 23, 2026 (LANA) – The Zwara Municipality announced that the stricken Russian tanker is currently heading northwest, approximately 65 kilometers from the coast, according to the latest updates from the operations room.

In a post on its official page today, the municipality confirmed that it is monitoring the situation closely and in continuous coordination with the relevant authorities, as part of its commitment to the safety of citizens and preventing any potential risks.

It reported that a number of vessels belonging to oil fields and companies, along with units from the Libyan Ports Company, the Coast Guard, and the Ministry of Defense, have already moved towards the tanker's location to secure it and take the necessary measures.

The municipality reassured citizens that the relevant authorities are exerting their utmost efforts to deal with the incident, emphasizing that they will continue to provide updates as they become available, and urging reliance on official sources for accurate information.
