N'Djamena, March 22, 2026 (LANA) – The Chadian army announced it has reinforced its troops near the border town of Tina with Sudan, amid escalating tensions along the border.
The army launched a security campaign to collect weapons and military vehicles from Tina, Chad, and locations inside Sudanese territory, following a drone attack that killed civilians in the town of Mabrouka, located in the Wadi Fira region, according to the Sudan Tribune.
Military sources revealed that Chadian forces have reinforced their deployment along the border, amid fears of a possible incursion into Sudanese Tina and its subsequent takeover. They indicated that the Chadian government has constructed trenches and earthen berms along the border separating the two towns.
Tina is located in the far northwest of North Darfur State and is divided into two towns, one Chadian and the other Sudanese, separated by a waterway. There are extensive family ties between the residents of the two towns.
Sources indicated that the local population's rejection of the Chadian army's actions, including the collection of weapons and the arrest of Sudanese refugees, has led to increased tensions along the border. The Chadian army also arrested a number of Sudanese nationals, allegedly for their participation in the joint force tasked with countering Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacks on the Chadian border town of Tine.
The Chadian army chief, General Abakar Abdelkarim Daoud, hinted at the RSF's involvement in the drone attack on the town of Mabrouka, which resulted in the deaths of 16 Chadian civilians. He stated that investigations are underway to determine the intended target, and that missile fragments have been sent to specialized laboratories in the Chadian capital, N'Djamena, for analysis.
