Tripoli, March 19, 2026 (LANA) – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, expressed her hope that Eid al-Fitr would bring a glimmer of hope for stability and prosperity in Libya, strengthening the bonds of unity and bringing peace to the country.
This came in a statement in which she congratulated the Libyan people on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
In her statement, Tetteh said that despite all the economic challenges Libyans have faced during the holy month, she was inspired by their resilience, their preservation of their wonderful heritage, and their generosity, from providing iftar meals to community initiatives and extending a helping hand to others, whether they are members of their own communities or migrants from the far east to the west and south of the country.
She emphasized that Libyans deserve a better life, and appealed to all politicians, institutions, and authorities to exert concerted efforts, embodying the spirit of Eid, to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the country and to participate in the political roadmap in pursuit of a better future for all Libyans, one filled with greater prosperity and inclusivity. Tetteh urged the Libyan authorities to uphold human rights values, which form the cornerstone of an inclusive society that respects individual rights and freedoms, thereby promoting reconciliation and ensuring the building of a country that provides opportunities for all Libyans and reflects their aspirations.
Tetteh concluded her congratulatory message by saying, “Today, many families are celebrating Eid amidst economic challenges. Some are living far from their homes and loved ones due to forced displacement, while others yearn for news of their loved ones, especially those who have disappeared as a result of arbitrary arrest or unlawful detention. As long as we live, we will always find opportunities to build a better future and look forward to brighter days. Therefore, I wish you all joyous celebrations.”
