Tripoli – March 18, 2026 (LANA) – The National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced a fire caused by a leak in a valve on the crude oil export pipeline from the Sharara field at kilometer 538 near the Bir al-Marhan area in Hamada. The NOC confirmed that no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
In a statement published on its official page early Wednesday morning, the NOC explained that emergency, firefighting, safety, and maintenance teams arrived at the leak site and began professionally addressing the incident to control it and address its causes.
The NOC confirmed that production at the Sharara field continues, with pumping gradually being diverted through the El Feel field pipeline to the Mellitah port. Another portion of the oil was diverted through the 18-inch Hamada pipeline to the Zawiya storage tanks, which significantly reduced losses.
The statement indicated that the Chairman and members of the NOC Board of Directors have been in continuous session since the incident to monitor developments closely. The relevant authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the leak.
