Heavy rains flood streets in the city of Zawiya

Zawiya, March 16, 2026 (LANA) – The city of Zawiya witnessed a significant rise in rainwater levels on Monday in several of its streets due to heavy rainfall, resulting in traffic disruptions in some neighborhoods.
The municipality confirmed that emergency response teams are continuing their efforts to pump out the water and remove stranded vehicles to ensure the safety of citizens and restore normal traffic flow.
The Libyan Red Crescent – Zawiya branch – declared a state of emergency and raised its alert level to full readiness, in support of local authorities in their rapid response and intervention efforts to address these emergency conditions.
The National Meteorological Center had previously indicated in a statement that northern regions of the country would be affected by a deep low-pressure system, accompanied by strong winds, a significant drop in temperatures, and heavy rainfall across most coastal cities and areas.
