Tripoli, March 16, 2026 (LANA) – The Tripoli Central Municipality announced this evening that tomorrow, Tuesday, will be an official holiday within its jurisdiction due to severe weather conditions and out of concern for public safety.

The municipality explained that this decision was made in consultation with the mayors of the Greater Tripoli municipalities and in coordination with the municipality's crisis committee.

The Tripoli Central Municipality exempted health facilities, banks, and essential services such as the water, sanitation, and electricity companies, the ambulance and emergency services, the Red Crescent, security agencies, and telecommunications companies from this holiday to ensure the continued provision of vital services to citizens.

The municipality urged all citizens to adhere to the guidelines and instructions issued by the relevant authorities to ensure their safety and security.

For its part, the Tripoli Security Directorate called on all citizens in the Greater Tripoli municipalities to exercise caution when driving their vehicles on certain highways that may experience significant flooding.

The National Center for Meteorology had previously announced in a statement that the northern regions of the country would experience a deep low-pressure system accompanied by active to strong winds, a significant drop in temperatures, and moderate to heavy rainfall, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.
