Tripoli, March 15, 2026 (LANA) – A Libyan delegation from the Ministry of Tourism, the Department of Historic Cities, and the Ghadames Development Authority participated in a meeting held in Tunis regarding the UNESCO Creative Cities Network program.

The meeting, convened at the invitation of the UNESCO Regional Office in Rabat, aimed to encourage cities to integrate culture and creativity into their urban and economic development strategies.

The Libyan delegation included Azzedine Al-Bakoush, Director of the Department of Architectural and Urban Heritage at the Ministry of Tourism and Traditional Industries; Diaa El-Din Marzouq, Director of the Planning Department at the Department of Historic Cities; and Abdelsalam Heiba, Head of the Ghadames Development Authority.

Sanaa Allam, Head of the Culture Sector at the Regional Office, delivered a presentation on the concept of creative cities, the selection mechanisms, and the criteria adopted within the network. She also highlighted the role of municipalities and local communities in supporting this development approach.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants welcomed the Libyan delegation's participation and expressed their openness to cooperation with relevant Libyan authorities through joint working sessions and efforts to sign memoranda of understanding to strengthen partnerships in the fields of culture, heritage, and creative development.
