CBL Governor meets with heads of departments

Tripoli, March 15, 2026 (LANA) – The Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Issa, held an expanded meeting today, Sunday, with the heads of the relevant departments at the Central Bank. The meeting was dedicated to discussing a range of vital economic and financial issues that directly affect citizens' lives.

The meeting addressed the correspondence from the Speaker of the House of Representatives regarding the cancellation of the tax imposed on certain goods, and the details of its implementation with banks for all goods, personal items, medical treatment, and education.

The attendees also reviewed the Central Bank's plans and preparations to provide foreign currency at the official exchange rate for all purposes and needs, based on available monthly revenues. In this context, the Governor directed that the necessary procedures and technical modifications to the relevant systems be expedited, and that work begin immediately on the Speaker of the House of Representatives' correspondence to resume the sale of foreign currency for all purposes.

As part of the bank's commitment to ensuring the stability of daily financial transactions, the meeting addressed the latest developments regarding the availability of cash for citizens. Efforts continue to guarantee the smooth flow of cash and meet the needs of citizens in all cities and regions of Libya (east, west, and south), within a comprehensive plan aimed at achieving a fair and stable distribution of liquidity across all banks and their branches.
