Al-Sunni meets with US Ambassador to the UN

New York – March 11, 2026 (LANA) – Libya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Taher al-Sunni, discussed the latest developments in Libya and the challenges facing the political process with the US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, during what he described as a constructive meeting. This meeting coincided with the United States assuming the presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of March.
During the meeting, al-Sunni emphasized the importance of continued US engagement in supporting efforts to unify Libyan institutions, which would contribute to advancing the political process and enhancing the prospects for stability in the country.
According to a tweet posted by al-Sunni on his X account on Wednesday, the two sides also discussed recent investment plans in the economic and energy sectors, stressing the importance of these steps as a path that can contribute to achieving peace and stability in Libya.
The two sides also exchanged views on current regional crises and their global repercussions, emphasizing that stability in Libya is a pivotal element in promoting peace and security at both the regional and international levels.
This meeting comes within the framework of ongoing diplomatic consultations regarding the Libyan issue, amid continued international interest in supporting political stability and strengthening the process of building state institutions in the country.
