The Imam Malik competition for memorizing the Quran and Sunnah has begun in Sirte with the participation of approximately 200 contestants.

Sirte, March 10, 2026 (LANA) – The ninth annual Imam Malik Competition for Memorizing the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah continues in Sirte, under the supervision of the Sirte branch of the General Authority for Endowments and Islamic Affairs, and sponsored by the Sirte Municipality and the Central Projects Department of the Administrative Centers Development and Improvement Authority.

Sheikh Ali Abu Shaifa, head of the competition and head of the Quranic Affairs Department at the Sirte Endowments Office, explained to the Libyan News Agency that the competition is witnessing the participation of approximately 200 male and female contestants from various age groups.

Abu Shaifa stated that the competition includes several levels of Quran memorization, including memorizing the entire Quran, half of the Quran, a quarter of the Quran, and the entire Quran for young memorizers, in addition to memorizing the last five parts.

The competition also includes a section dedicated to the Prophetic Sunnah, which includes memorizing the first level of the series of scholarly texts, the first and second levels, and the first three levels of the series.

The competitions also include a public speaking contest and a "Little Muezzin" category to develop the participants' skills in preaching, public speaking, and the call to prayer (Adhan).

Abu Shaifa noted that the competition's activities are overseen by a judging panel of sheikhs from the Sirte Endowments Office, headed by Sheikh Abu al-Qasim Aghnia, and will continue for three days.

The competitions for males are being held at the Granada and Al-Atiq mosques, while the female students' competitions are being held at the mosque in District No. 2.
