Egyptian-Turkish Consultations about Libya

Cairo – March 10, 2026 (LANA) – The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Cairo hosted the sixth round of Egyptian-Turkish consultations on Libya on Monday. The two sides discussed the latest political and security developments in the country and ways to support the political process in a manner that preserves Libya's unity and sovereignty and enhances stability for the Libyan people.
According to the official page of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the consultations included an exchange of views and assessments between the two sides regarding developments in the Libyan situation, with emphasis placed on the importance of supporting the political track and preserving the unity and sovereignty of Libyan territory, which contributes to achieving security and stability.
The two sides also discussed regional and international efforts to support the UN-sponsored political settlement process, stressing the need to intensify international and regional coordination to advance the political process.
During the talks, both sides emphasized the importance of encouraging dialogue among the various Libyan parties and working to create the appropriate conditions for launching a comprehensive political process that leads to lasting stability in the country.
The participants stressed the necessity of providing a suitable environment for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, in order to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people for stability, development, and the building of state institutions.
The Egyptian side, specifically regarding Libya, was headed by Ambassador Bassel Salah, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of the Libya Department, while the Turkish delegation was headed by Ambassador Ali Onaner, Director General of the North and East Africa Department at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
